Bollywood
melodramatic and one of the supreme actors in Indian cinema, Dilip Kumar is not
celebrating his 93rd birthday today.
Born as
Muhammad Yusuf Khan, had started his career in 1944 as Dilip Kumar with the
film Jwar Bhata. Then he perform in many films with a variety of roles such
as in Andaz (1949), Aan social
drama Ganga Jamu (1952), Devdas (1955), the comic Azaad (1955), the
historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960). In
the mid ’70s, he discontinue from films for five years and later he made a
comeback to Bollywood with a very strong performance in Manoj Kumar’s Kranti
that was released in 1981. From there on, he stuck to play on more
character-driven roles in films such as Shakti
(1982), Karma (1986) and Saudagar (1991). His act as the tormented journalist
turned altercation in Yash Chopra’s Mashaal
was one of the finest performances ever seen in bollywood. His last film was
Qila In 1998. The Indian Government privileged him with the Padma Bhushan in
1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his aids towards Indian cinema.
He has worked in around 60 movies and become an inspiration for many upcoming
B-town actors.
The actor
is wedded to the gorgeous Saira Banu. Due to the floods in Chennai, Dilip Saab
had decided not to have gathering for his birthday. Previously also he had celebrate
his birthday, when his close friend and another Bollywood legend Dev Anand
passed away.
